Open Sea is a free raft fishing survival game: stranded at sea, you catch fish to eat and to use as bait. It runs in your browser with nothing to install.
Water in every direction. All you have is a raft, a fishing rod and a hunger bar that keeps dropping. Hold space to build up power and let go to cast, set the hook the moment the float dips, and tap to reel it in. Every fish you land can be eaten to fill the bar or cut up and used as bait. When hunger hits zero, it is over.
Fishing has its own logic here. A bare hook only takes the small fish under the raft, sardines and mackerel. Bait the hook with one of those and better fish come looking: red snapper, striped beakfish, yellowtail. Bait it with a good fish and cast far, and bluefin tuna and blue marlin appear. The real work starts once a big one is on. Watch the tension bar, wait while the fish runs, and reel when it stops. Keep reeling through a run and the line snaps.
Days pass and night falls, and cutlassfish only bite in the dark. There are 14 species in all. Each catch goes into your fish log with its name and your biggest size, while the ones you have not caught yet show as silhouettes. Land a bluefin tuna or a blue marlin and the man makes it back to shore, with the days you survived and your biggest fish on record.

Do I need to install Open Sea?
No. Open the link in your browser and it starts. No app, no sign-up.
Is Open Sea free?
Yes, completely free. No payments.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Turn the phone sideways. One button at the bottom right casts, hooks and reels, and you drag the screen to look around. On a PC it is the space bar and the mouse.
How do I play?
Hold space to build up power and release to cast. When the float dips, press space to set the hook, then tap repeatedly to reel. When the fish runs, stop reeling and wait, or the line snaps.
Is my record saved?
Your best run in days, your biggest fish and your fish log are saved in your browser. Open it again on the same device and browser and they are still there. Nothing is sent to a server.
How does it end?
When your hunger bar hits zero it is GAME OVER. Land a bluefin tuna or a blue marlin and you make it back to shore: CLEAR.
How do I catch the big fish?
A bare hook only takes small fish. Bait it with a small fish you caught and better fish such as red snapper and yellowtail come in; bait it with one of those and cast far, and bluefin tuna and blue marlin show up. One bait fish is cut into 2 to 10 pieces depending on its size, so it lasts several casts.
How many kinds of fish are there?
14: sardine, horse mackerel, mackerel, rockfish and cutlassfish; red snapper, black seabream, striped beakfish, sea bass, Spanish mackerel, mahi-mahi and yellowtail; bluefin tuna and blue marlin. Cutlassfish only come at night. Each fish you catch goes in the log with its name and your biggest size; the ones you have not caught show as silhouettes.
