OTTEOK.COM is a 3D business tycoon game where a tiny rice cake shop grows into a NASDAQ company. It runs free in your PC or phone browser with no download.
You start in a back-alley shop. When an order comes in, you pound injeolmi with a mallet, pinch songpyeon and stack rainbow cake layer by layer. Then you box the rice cakes, tie them in a cloth wrap, add a sticker, pack ice packs and bubble wrap and ship them. Customers leave stars and reviews, and better rice cakes earn more money.
Spend your earnings on the next step in the shop: otteok.com opens, first franchise, Otteok Inc., 100 stores, going global and the NASDAQ IPO. Each step changes the sign on your shop, and honey ddeok, garaetteok, jeolpyeon, baekseolgi and strawberry mochi join the menu. There are eight kinds of rice cakes in all.
From Otteok Inc. on, you stop making rice cakes by hand. A factory goes up next to the workbench, and every rail you buy carries rice cakes from the dough barrel through the machines into boxes, earning money every second. You can lay up to 8 rails. Wrapping robots, high-speed belts, a robot logistics hub and AI quality checks multiply your factory income.
Machines break down. A rail stays stopped until you tap the machine with the warning mark three times. When you get tired of that, buy the humanoid robot. It walks the factory floor, runs to broken machines and fixes them by itself. From then on you can minimize the window and let the factory grow.
Once the money piles up, open the map. Franchises in 7 Korean cities and 14 cities abroad, from Tokyo to Paris and New York, pay royalties every day and raise your company value. Zoom the map with the mouse wheel or two fingers. When your company value passes 500 billion, a private equity deal appears in the shop. Take it and the M&A pushes your value past 1 trillion.
The last stop is the NASDAQ exchange. Ring the bell on the podium under the stock board, confetti cannons go off and your stock price shoots up. Then you get a result card with your company value, boxes shipped, stores worldwide and countries, which you can save or share. What do I do when a machine breaks?
Tap the machine with the red warning mark three times to fix it. That rail earns nothing until it is fixed. If you buy the humanoid robot in the shop, it runs over and fixes machines by itself.
Does the factory keep running when I minimize the window?
From Otteok Inc. on, the factory keeps running while you look at another tab or minimize the window. It stops when you close the browser, and when you come back you continue from your last save. Time stops while the shop or the map is open.
How does company value go up?
It rises as your factory earns more money and as you open franchises in more cities. Broken machines slow it down.
When does the private equity deal appear?
A special deal shows up in the shop when your company value passes 500 billion. It costs no money. Take it and the M&A pushes your value past 1 trillion and sends you to NASDAQ.
How are star ratings decided?
Stars depend on how well you made the rice cakes. Putting them in the wrong spots costs you stars, and too few ice packs means one star.
How many ice packs do I need?
As many as the order says. Seoul and Daejeon need 1, Daegu, Busan and Gwangju need 2, and Jeju needs 3. Extra ice packs cut your pay.
How do I reach the ending?
Ring the bell on the podium at the NASDAQ exchange. The IPO finishes and you get a result card. Your title depends on your average stars, and you can save or share the card.
