Yokai Like

🎮 Play now

Yokai Like is a free survivors-like game where you survive 12 minutes of festival night against swarming yokai with auto-firing weapons and fireworks. No download, it starts right in your browser.

Cherry petals drift over a festival night and yokai pour in between the food stalls. Pick a girl, run around the grounds, and your weapons fire by themselves. Your job is to keep moving, pick up the soul flames the yokai drop to level up, and set off fireworks. The yokai get tougher and more numerous by the minute, and by the 12 minute mark the grounds are packed.

Fireworks are the big hit. An orange gauge above your head fills on its own. Hold the red button at the bottom right on a phone, or the space bar on PC, and a dotted ring grows while you charge. Let go and a rocket shoots up and bursts, blasting every yokai inside the ring. Release the instant the gauge hits full and you get a PERFECT: a wider blast with double damage.

Pixel art of Ayame in a sailor uniform surrounded by umbrella yokai, one-eyed boys, kappa and soul flames on the festival grounds, with an HP bar and damage numbersThe level up window showing three cards: the Flame Shinai evolution, the new item Ramune and the new weapon Lantern

Each level up offers three cards. You can carry up to five weapons, and picking the same weapon again raises it up to level 5. Get a weapon to level 5 and one stall item (candy apple, choco banana or ramune) to level 3 or higher, and an evolution card appears. An evolved weapon gets a new name and double damage. The four shared weapons are the firework that falls from the sky, the lantern that burns everything around you, the fox mask that slows what it hits, and the exploding takoyaki.

There are eight kinds of yokai. The hopping umbrella karakasa, the fast one-eyed boy, the kappa that sometimes drops takoyaki when killed, the drifting soul flame, the fox, the faceless noppera-bo, the nekomata and the little oni are added one kind at a time every couple of minutes. Touching a yokai costs HP and at zero it is GAME OVER. Takoyaki restores 30 HP, and each level up heals a little too.

Every yokai you kill pays coins, and coins stay with you even when you fall. The shop on the title screen sells permanent upgrades in five steps each: damage, max HP, speed, soul flame magnet, firework gauge and soul flame XP. The collection lists 11 yokai, 12 weapons, 3 items and 8 girls. Only the ones you have seen are revealed, and the rest stay as question marks.

Survive 12 minutes and the dawn bell rings to end the run. Only Ayame is available at first. Reach dawn with one girl and the next one unlocks, up to all eight. Each girl keeps her best survival time, and if you fall you see your TIME, LEVEL and KILL count and hit RETRY.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set off fireworks?

Once the orange gauge above your head is past 15, hold the red button at the bottom right on a phone or the space bar on PC to charge, and let go to burst. Release the instant the gauge is full for a PERFECT, which is wider and does double damage. Hold for more than 1.5 seconds and it goes off by itself.

How do weapons evolve?

Raise a weapon to level 5 and get candy apple, choco banana or ramune to level 3 or higher, and an evolution card shows up among your level up cards. Evolved weapons get a new name and double damage.

How do I recover HP?

Kappa sometimes drop takoyaki when killed, and picking one up restores 30 HP. Each level up heals 15, and when there is nothing left to upgrade a +50 HP card appears. Choco banana raises your max HP.

When do the bosses show up?

Tanuki at 3 minutes, Tengu at 6, the Giant Umbrella at 9, Tanuki again at 11 and Tengu again at 11:30. The Tengu charges at you and the Giant Umbrella summons small umbrella yokai. Bosses drop a big pile of soul flames.

How do I unlock the other girls?

Only Ayame is available at first. Survive 12 minutes to dawn with one girl and the next girl in line unlocks, up to all eight. Every girl starts with a different weapon.

Can I keep playing after dawn?

No. At 12 minutes the bell rings and the run ends, and there is no endless mode. Each girl keeps her longest survival time as a record.
