Moonlit Outlaw
Moonlit Outlaw is a free 2D pixel sword fighting platformer in the spirit of old DOS games. You play a masked outlaw who runs, leaps, climbs and duels through 10 levels, from a county jail to the magistrate's hall, to free your father. It runs in your browser on PC or phone with no download.
A corrupt magistrate has framed your father and locked him deep inside his hall. You start bare-handed in a jail cell, find a sword in the first level, and look for the exit door in every level after that. The screen moves one room at a time, and each room is three floors tall, so you hang from ledges to climb up and drop through holes to get down.
On a PC, ← → run, ↑ jumps and climbs, ↓ ducks and climbs down, and Z attacks. On a phone, turn it sideways for a round joystick at the bottom left and jump and attack buttons at the bottom right. Push the stick up to jump, or up and forward to leap while running. Press ↑ at a ledge while running to leap across and grab the far edge. Run off an edge without jumping and you simply fall. A drop of almost two floors knocks you out at once.

The traps are built around an old Korean county office.
| Trap | What it does |
|---|---|
| Fire pillar | Fire bursts from the floor on a beat. Cross while it is out |
| Stone pestle | A heavy pestle slams down from above |
| Arrow hole | Arrows fly out of the wall. Duck with ↓ and they pass over you |
| Bamboo spike pit | Falling in ends the run. Leap over it |
| Rotten floor | Shakes when you step on it, then drops to the floor below |
| Wooden gate | Opens for a short time when you step on a floor plate |
Enemies are club-wielding guards, officers with hats and swords, the dokkaebi goblin that takes ten sword hits, and at the very end the magistrate with ten health. Red beads over each enemy's head show its health. In a fight, Z strikes and ↑ blocks. Enemies block and strike back too, so button mashing will not get you far.

| Level | Place |
|---|---|
| 1 | The Prison |
| 2 | Magistrate Hall |
| 3 | Moonlit Rooftops |
| 4 | Town Walls |
| 5 | Goblin Cave |
| 6 | Deep Goblin Cave |
| 7 | Abandoned Temple |
| 8 | Fallen Pavilion |
| 9 | Governor's Storehouse |
| 10 | The Magistrate |
Eight rice cakes, four ginseng roots and eight coin bundles are hidden across the levels. A rice cake refills one bead of health, and ginseng adds one bead to your maximum. If you go down, you start again with full health where you entered the room.
Beat the magistrate and reach your father, and he talks to you one speech bubble at a time. Then a result card shows your time, deaths, coins and enemies defeated. You can save it as an image or share the link.

Frequently asked questions
If I die in Moonlit Outlaw, do I start over?
No. You come back with full health right where you entered that room. There is no life limit; only your death count goes on the result card.
What happens if I fall from a high place?
Falling almost two floors knocks you out at once. Letting go while hanging from a ledge is safe. Walking off an edge does not grab the ledge for you, so press up to jump when you cross a gap.
How do I beat the goblin?
The dokkaebi goblin has ten health, far more than a guard. Keep striking until the red beads over its head are gone. Each hit also pushes it back hard, so you can drive it off a ledge.
How do I block in a sword fight?
Press up (or X or Shift on a PC) the moment an enemy raises its blade. After a block you get a short window to strike back. Enemies block and counter too, so mashing attack rarely wins.
What is the difference between rice cakes and ginseng?
A rice cake refills one bead of health. Ginseng adds one bead to your maximum health and fills you up. There are eight rice cakes and four ginseng roots hidden in the levels, so finding every root gives you seven beads.
How does the game end?
On the tenth level, defeat the magistrate with ten health and reach your father. He speaks to you in five speech bubbles, then a result card shows your time, deaths, coins and enemies defeated.
