QR Code Scanner is a free web tool that reads QR codes with your camera or from photos. When it finds a link, it first shows where the link really goes and any phishing warning signs.

How to scan a QR code

1. If you have a photo or screenshot of a QR code, click Scan from photo and choose it. On a computer you can also drag and drop the image or paste it with Ctrl+V.
2. For a QR code on paper or another screen, click Scan with camera, allow camera access and fit the code inside the square.
3. For a link, check Really goes to and the warnings, then click Open. For Wi-Fi you can copy the password, and for text you can copy the content.

It checks for phishing before you open anything

Quishing is phishing through QR codes: a code sends you to a fake site to steal your details or money. This scanner never opens a link right away. It shows the real domain in large type and points out insecure addresses (http), short links, numeric IP addresses, addresses imitating well-known companies and banks, and addresses with an @ inside.

No warning does not guarantee a site is safe. Do not enter passwords or card numbers on sites you do not know.

Is the QR code scanner free? Do I need an app?

It is free. No app to install and no sign-up: it works right in your browser.

Can it read QR codes from photos or screenshots?

Yes. Click Scan from photo and choose a photo or screenshot from your gallery. On a computer you can also drag and drop the image or paste it with Ctrl+V.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Photos and camera images are read only inside the browser on your device. Nothing you scan is saved, so no one who picks up your phone can see what you scanned.

Does it warn about QR code phishing?

For QR codes with links, it does not open them right away. It first shows the real domain and warning signs such as insecure addresses, short links, numeric addresses and addresses imitating well-known companies. It cannot catch every scam, so do not enter personal details on sites you do not know even without a warning.

The camera does not start.

Allow camera access when your browser asks. Browsers inside apps like KakaoTalk may block the camera; use Scan from photo to take a picture instead, or open the page in Chrome or Safari.

Can it read Wi-Fi QR codes?

Yes. It shows the Wi-Fi name, password and security type, and you can copy the password with one tap.
